FORESIGHT
As we design for current and future realities, the anxieties and aspirations of the present reflect vividly in the works featured in this track. Having firm roots in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and driven by innovations in technology, they aim for societal progress and altruistic futures. The works either respond to the pressing issues posed by the pandemic or long term systemic issues that plague human ‘development’ and possibly got us where we are today.
While ‘foresight’ carries a tone of caution and calculation, these works and their designers beam with ambition. By innovating sustainable bio-materials and restructuring citizen participation in governance through digitisation, they critically analyse the past and the present while perceiving the immediate future with great hope and sensibility.
